What You'll Do/Need

The Category Manager plays an integral role in shaping procurement strategy across Quicken Loans and the Family of Companies. This team member will closely align to understand the business needs and drivers and, ensure the optimization of costs and services delivered within the defined category. They will use criteria like industry experience, market dynamics, capacity, potential risk, quality standards and financial viability.


  • Serve as category Subject Matter Expert (SME) and create and conduct the RFI, RFP and RFQ process for assigned categories
  • Lead a category team and collaborate with Business and Contracts team to negotiate with vendors and secure best pricing available for goods/services
  • Track category performance internally and against industry standards, and build collaborative relationships
  • Identify existing and potential vendors for assigned projects and categories, and conduct market research on vendors, explore vendor options and understand market cost for category goods and services
  • Offer alternative sourcing approaches/vendors to business partners to ensure that the best-value vendor is selected
  • Ensure procurement strategies are known to all relevant parts of the business in order to maximize the commercial advantages and evaluate potential cost savings or cost avoidance opportunities
  • Collaborate with Legal team in the development, review and execution of contracts and utilizes company governance, risk and compliance tools
  • Educate internal business partners on the importance of vendor management and holding suppliers accountable to contractual commitments
  • Ensure that contract renewals are completed on time to avoid lapses in services




  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, finance or a related area
  • Two-plus years of experience/familiarity with procurement processes and supporting technologies
  • Ability to identify, track and communicate risk concerns to vendors, business leaders and stakeholders at all levels
  • Demonstrable influencing and leadership skills/ability to influence a diverse group of internal customers, including some public speaking opportunities
  • Comprehension of procurement governance and processes, ensuring that all procurements are compliant with company policies

What’ll Make You Special

  • Five-plus years of experience managing critical vendor relationships (ideally in the mortgage or financial services industry)
  • Two-plus years of experience in creating and facilitating RFI, RFP and RFQs, and leading price negotiations
  • Previous experience in multiple categories of spend
  • Can prioritize and plan work activities to achieve success; sets and achieves goals and objectives; develops realistic action plans and delivers accuracy and thoroughness
  • CPM certification
