What You'll Do/Need

Position Summary:

Reporting to the VP, Accounting, the Senior Development Controller operates in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.  Leading the Development Accounting team, the Senior Development Controller supports the portfolio of real estate projects held for development or under construction managed by Bedrock. This person must possess the necessary skills in accounting for real estate projects still in development with an understanding of both GAAP and tax treatment of related costs.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and guides the activities of a team of four people, including a Senior Accountant and a Staff Accountant, while providing leadership, motivation and support to drive superior performance

  • Ensures accounting records are maintained on projects held for development or under construction in accordance with GAAP
  • Improves financial reporting workflows to help in the consolidation of information to various stakeholders internally and externally Plans, develops, and implements effective accounting strategies, policies and procedures in accordance with evolving regulations, legal and governmental requirements and industry trends
  • Creates, reviews, and approves journal entries as needed to maintain accuracy of the general ledger
  • Produces and presents accurate and timely month and quarter-end accounting reports, which include budget vs. actual and spend projections for all active and proposed projects
  • Continues to develop and refine project cost reporting within Yardi and/or eBuilder to support the Finance, Accounting, and Construction and Management teams’ needs for accurate spending information
  • Monitor status of various tax credit/incentive programs across the portfolio
  • Assist in preparing portions of quarterly funding request

Position Requirements:


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required; CPA certification is a plus
  • 10+ years of accounting experience with 5 years of commercial real estate industry experience 
  • 5 years of construction project management experience and people leadership experience, preferably with large projects ($50M+)
  • Proficiency in Yardi accounting software and experience with e-builder is preferred
  • Interest and passion for urban planning and transforming industrial-age cities
  • Ability to think strategically, synthesize business data and develop innovative and holistic business solutions that are forward thinking and growth oriented
  • Experience at the leadership level delivering innovative strategies and programs in a fast paced, evolving, global organization across a diverse set of businesses
  • Relates well to others, builds rapport, and effective relationships, uses tact, can diffuse high-tension situations. Can also be tough minded in a constructive way. Can get things done within the formal and informal corporate structure(s)
